Veterans Housing

Through strong partnerships with the Statesville Housing Authority, Purple Heart Homes, and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Fifth Street Ministries has created programs designed to meet the unique needs of homeless veterans in our community. At the heart of this effort is Heroes House, a renovated home on Wilson Lee Boulevard that serves as transitional housing. The home includes five single-occupancy rooms reserved for veterans, along with an additional room for a live-in staff member who provides ongoing peer support.

Beyond the main house, six tiny homes have been built adjacent to the campus, expanding the availability of transitional housing. To further address immediate needs, five additional beds are also reserved in the emergency shelter specifically for veterans experiencing homelessness. Together, these facilities provide not only safe shelter but also a sense of stability and belonging for those who have served our country.

In FY24, Fifth Street Ministries supported 45 veterans through a comprehensive array of services designed to help them transition to permanent housing. Each veteran received individualized case management and peer support, along with assistance in applying for VA benefits and other veteran-specific resources. Additional services included healthcare, counseling, substance abuse treatment, life-skills training, educational opportunities, job placement support, and transportation to ensure access to all programs. These combined efforts reflect the ministry’s commitment to honoring veterans by walking alongside them on their journey toward stability and independence.
