My Sister's House
24 hour crisis line: (704) 872-3403
My Sister’s House provides a safe and supportive refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Within this haven, counselors and advocates walk alongside survivors, offering hospital and court advocacy, peer support, and individualized case management. Many of the women who arrive come to us physically and emotionally traumatized, often isolated from loved ones and uncertain about their next steps. Here, they begin to find clarity, assess their situation, and take the first steps toward healing and independence.
The shelter is designed to provide both comfort and dignity. Bedrooms allow mothers and children to stay together, a kitchen gives families the ability to prepare meals from a well-stocked pantry, and shared spaces create opportunities for rest, connection, and counseling. In these settings, women and their children begin to rebuild their sense of safety and control. Two dedicated victim advocates, who also serve as case managers, provide critical support, from accompanying survivors to hospital visits and court hearings to offering consistent reminders that they are not alone in their journey. Services are also extended to men who have been victims of violence, ensuring that all survivors in need can find support.
In FY24, My Sister’s House served 99 survivors of domestic violence, including 51 children, who collectively spent 5,627 nights in shelter. Staff provided 1,053 counseling sessions to 127 individuals, 549 advocacy services to 310 people, and answered 699 calls through the 24-hour crisis line. These numbers reflect not just services provided, but lives impacted—each interaction representing a step toward safety, recovery, and hope for survivors and their families.
