| Night Shelter |
| The Night Shelter is where all single males and females begin when coming to Fifth Street. Many times it ends up being a safe home for those who are mentally ill or substance abusers, but our goal is for all of our guests to work towards their maximum ability. With the lack of an adequate substance abuse treatment program in our county, we many times find ourselves band-aiding a situation. With the current state of mental health treatment in our country, we provide what we can within our limits by giving a safe place to sleep, access to food, clothing, and other basic necessities, while trying to help our guests obtain some sense of stability. When individuals come into the Night Shelter, they have 28 days to begin setting goals. Everyone comes in at Level 1 - which means checking in between 6 and 6:30pm in the evening and leaving after breakfast each morning. Those at Level 1 can return for lunch at 11am for lunch and again at 5:30pm for supper, just prior to checking into the Night Shelter for the night. During that 28 day period, they may make application to move to Level 2 where more is required, but staying on the property during the day is allowed. Attending life skills training classes is the first step to begin rebuilding lives. Our daily work program gives them the opportunity to stay off the streets, have access to transportation for necessary appointments, and a safe place to be during the day. Residents are given the opportunity to work up through the "levels," and ultimately residing in Transitional One where the serious work of rebuilding their lives continues. |
