EMERGENCY SHELTER/ TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
|
Emergency Shelter: Upon entry into our program, families will be given Emergency
Shelter status. They may stay at this level for 28 days. After they have been in the
Emergency Shelter for at least 14 days, they have the opportunity to apply for
Transitional Housing-Level 1. If they are accepted into the program, then at the end of
their 28 days, their status will change. If they are not accepted, the services they are
receiving will end on the 28th day.
Transitional Housing: Once guest is accepted into the Transitional Housing program, a
plan will be put together with the assistance of the case manager that will yield an end-
result of the guest being in a stable living situation. While being enrolled in this
program, both short-term and long-term goals are set with weekly meetings with the
case manager to assess progress in meeting these goals. A monetary savings will be
required by each guest and will be placed into a savings account to be used towards
deposits when the guest is ready to move into their own living situation. Networking
with other agencies on behalf of guests will be overseen by the case manager. Classes
to assist with credit counseling, budgeting, job training, parenting, AA/NA meetings,
character education, personal hygiene, etc. are incorporated weekly into the program
and requires mandatory participation by those enrolled in Transitional Housing—
Level I. For those unable to work, reasonable and attainable goals are set and
monitored closely. We are working closely with outside sources at this time to build a
program that will be beneficial to the success of our guests.
Transitional Housing-Resident Staff: Those participating in this program are referred
to as Resident Staff. While the same guidelines of Transitional Housing apply, these
individuals also have responsibilities related to the running of the shelter program such
as night phone, laundry, monitoring night shelter, etc. This gives an opportunity to
build a good job reference for those needing a credible work history as well as giving
more time to develop better life skills necessary for success. Length of stay at this level
varies according to the individual needs.
